  1. Dinosaurs Live! at The Heard

    September 2, 2017 - February 20, 2018 @ Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

    Encounter the 46-foot T-Rex and nine new life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary’s nature trails at the 12th annual Dinosaurs Live! The exhibit always gives families and friends a fun, educational activity to enjoy together. See the dinosaurs move and hear them roar! Photo op and play area dinosaurs will be available as well. This year, the exhibit also features an outdoor fossil dig. The dinosaur trail is jogging stroller friendly (it is not suitable for strollers with small wheels).

  2. Exhibit - POPPIES, A Symbol of Remembrance

    If you've ever been to the Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown, Texas, you'll know the vibrancy of bright red poppies and their symbol of remembrance. From September 19 through September 30th, the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts (McKinney's oldest art museum) will showcase poppy paintings, porcelain works, and current McKinney Artists' whimsical works (for sale to the public) featuring poppies. Remember a loved one with a gift of poppy art. Open during the day between 9:00 - 3:00 PM and on Saturday mornings from 8:00 - noon. At 205 W. Hunt. Tickets are available online.

  3. 10th Annual McKinney Oktoberfest

    September 22, 2017 - September 24, 2017 @ Historic Downtown McKinney Square

    McKinney Oktoberfest draws close to 50,000 attendees and attracts visitors from all over North Texas and other points beyond. Tapping into the colorful tradition that began in Munich, Germany in 1810, McKinney Oktoberfest is a family-friendly event with authentic German music, food and drink, traditional costumes, dancing and children’s activities while staying honoring the many cultural contributions of German immigrants who settled in Texas.

  6. 12th Annual Crape Myrtle Run & Festival

    September 23, 2017, 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ McKinney Boyd High School - North end of parking lot

    The 2017 Crape Myrtle Run and Festival, featuring USATF certified 10K and 5K courses and a 1-mile course, is set for Saturday, Sept. 23. The start/finish line for all walkers and runners is located this year at McKinney Boyd High School, 600 North Lake Forest Drive in McKinney. Races begin at 8:00, 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. with check-in and pre-race entertainment at 7 a.m. The festival aspect of the annual event includes activities in “Myrtle Village” both before and after the race. Entertainment in the area includes a petting zoo, face painter, bounce house, photo booth, inflatable obstacle course, music, warm-up exercises, and a great favorite, the Chicken Dance. In a long-established tradition, students from the school with the greatest participation will get to see their coach or principal Kiss a Pig. (“Myrtle” is her name.) In addition, local education reaps benefits when Crape Myrtle Trails Board members return $5 of students’ and parents’ registration fees to participating schools
