Chestnut Square Historic Village is a collection of six historic homes, a replica of a one-room school house, chapel and store on 2.5 acres just south of the downtown McKinney square. The grounds also include a blacksmith shop, smoke house, and beautiful chapel and reception gardens. The buildings include period artifacts showing how people lived in Collin County from 1854-1920. Also home to many events: Farmers Market, Ice Cream Crank-Off and Living History Days. Tours on Thursdays and Saturdays with trolley tours on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays.

The Collin County Farm Museum strives to develop a better understanding and appreciation of Collin County’s rural heritage from the earliest settlement through the 1960s. The Collin County Farm Museum consists of 8,528 square feet of collections and restoration exhibits in the Wells Building. Additional artifacts are located throughout Myers Park & Event Center, including the Blacksmith Shop, the Granary and the Confinement house. Check the website for seasonal hours and class schedule.

Located just one block east of McKinney’s historic downtown square, this museum in the historic post office building, is one of McKinney’s best kept secrets. The museum is open year round, Thursday through Saturday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Family research and genealogy projects are welcome. Our archives and family files include information, documentation, and photographs from Collin County. We have a capable group of research volunteers available to assist each Thursday. The City of McKinney offers two 18-hole disc golf courses - the Alex Clark Memorial Disc Golf Course (a good course for beginners to experts) and the Towne Lake Disc Golf Course (a more challenging course, considered by many area and visiting disc golfers to be one of the best courses in North Texas).

The Dr Pepper StarCenter McKinney at Craig Ranch has two sheets of ice, a full-service StarStuff pro shop, a snack bar and four meeting rooms. The StarCenter will be the home to two hockey associations -- the McKinney Ice Hockey Club which fields teams in the AT&T High School Hockey League, and the Texas Aces, which fields travel teams of all ages in the North Texas Hockey League. The facility will also feature beginner leagues for youth and adult hockey players run by the Dallas Stars, advanced adult hockey leagues, a Learn-to-Skate program, figure skating, birthday parties, public skating, corporate team building events, private ice rentals, camps, clinics, tournaments and skating competitions.

Dennis Wehrmann comes from a family with a real brewing history. Born in the midst of Bavaria, he grew up in an area surrounded by several historic breweries. After moving to the U.S. with his wife in the late 1990s, he spent 4 years working for Two Rows until the first step was taken of fulfilling a long life dream of opening his own brewery Franconia Brewing Company. Scheduled brewery tours are every Saturday at 11 am. $5 per person - Free beer samples are included. This 289-acre nature preserve made up of a variety of habitats and miles of nature trails also features bird blinds, an Animals of the World Exhibit, educational pioneer village, butterfly gardens and a variety of indoor exhibits. Bring a picnic basket for enjoying lunch in the picnic area. Most trails are stroller friendly. Check their website for a variety of classes, special events and visiting exhibits.
