McKinney residents Paul Miles and his wife Lali decided to start this tour company/service after experiencing such tours in other cities.

“Our tour is a casual three-hour walking tour which will encompass the downtown area in under two miles,” Lali said. The tours are led by my husband Paul, who our guests will find to be an extremely knowledgeable local guide, having lived in McKinney for the past 25 years! It's a great way to showcase the city of McKinney to visitors as well as have some unique fun as a family."

Needless to say, we always love learning of new fun tour options to promote to our visitors and residents. The fact we also love great food and a reason to indulge in dining out made this new tour for McKinney all the more exciting! So we were quite happy when Paul and Lali checked back in with us this week to let us know how things were going.

“We recently completed several rounds of ‘test’ tours and even a couple rounds of live ‘Friends & Family’ tours with more than 20 tour guests,” Lali said. “The feedback has been wonderful, very positive, and our six restaurant partners have been both fabulous and extremely supportive!"

The couple was planning to do a formal hard commercial launch of the tour in early March 2018, with the trial runs going on now to serve as a very soft launch. This would give them the ability to tweak the tours while working on necessary marketing efforts including finalizing their website and other related necessities. But rather than just open their tours to their own family and friends, they’ve decided to open it up to anyone interested in going out on one of their inaugural brunch hour tours.

“We’ve had a lot of people who are familiar with the Friends & Family tours asking us for tours during Thanksgiving week since many people have time off and perhaps have family coming into town,” Lali said. “We decided to sell tickets starting this coming weekend and Thanksgiving weekend – Saturday, Nov. 18 through Sunday, Nov. 26.”

Their first tour option, “Eat There or Be Square,” which is the lone one being offered in this initial period, is designed to provide the guest with an introduction to some of the best restaurants on McKinney’s historic downtown square while sharing some intriguing insights into the history of the area culturally, historically, and architecturally. Food tastings take place at six partner eateries and shops - Cadillac Pizza Pub, The Pantry, The Butcher Board, Bien Salsa, Goodies Texas, and Hugs Café.

Currently the tour is provided Saturdays and Sundays from 10:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and is open to adults and children ages 14 and up. Tickets are $59 per person with tickets available for purchase at their kiosk site or by clicking the "Book Now" button on their Facebook page.

Also, we know Paul and Lali would appreciate having our readers head over to Facebook and "like" their page, (www.facebook.com/foodwalksoftexas) to keep up-to-date on more announcements to come.
