Honoring Our Heroes This Veterans Day in McKinney (2017)

veterans day imageSeveral local and regional events are taking place this Veterans Day Weekend, including the following:

The McKinney Dance Band presents Red, White, and Basie, our third annual salute to our veterans. This year's program includes patriotic favorites in honor of those that have and are serving and we will highlight a great American bandleader, William James “Count” Basie, featuring singers and toe-tapping music. 7-9 p.m. in the Courtroom Theater at McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee. FREE!
 

Veterans Day Tributes (Saturday)
Start the day at 11 a.m. at the McKinney Veterans Memorial Park, 6053 Weiskopf in Craig Ranch. The morning ceremony features guest speakers, a missing man formation flyover, patriotic music and parading of colors. Then that evening, take part in a sundown ceremony back at the Veterans Memorial Park, 5:26 p.m.
 

Local Heroes Read Exhibit (Saturday)
For the second year, the Roy & Helen Hall Library will host a Local Heroes Read exhibit with posters of local heroes holding their favorite book. Meet the heroes in the photos during a special reception at 3 p.m. Event runs 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 101 E. Hunt.
 

Free Day-Use Passes at State Parks (Sunday)
To thanks all veterans and active military personnel for their service, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Division if  waiving day-use entry fees for everyone on the Sunday, Nov. 12. (Camping and other activity fees will still apply.) Gather your family and spend the day exploring a park near you, for free. And say thanks to a veteran or soldier if you see one!
