National Tourism Week Fun is Underway in McKinney!

Posted on May 7, 2018 at 4:16 PM by Beth Shumate

NTTW-2018-logoMcKinney residents and visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about the city May 6-12 when the McKinney Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCVB) hosts its annual observance of National Travel & Tourism Week.

This year's theme is "Travel: Then & Now" which fits perfectly with McKinney's heritage. Both visitors and residents alike are fascinated with McKinney's history and heritage; it's something we are regularly asked about by people stopping into the Visitors Center.

Free Walking Tours
National Travel & Tourism Week happens to fall just as National Preservation Month (in May) is getting underway. The MCVB staff is excited to be partnering with the city's Historic Preservation Office; Guy Giersch, the city's Historic Preservation Officer, will be guiding three walking tours of the downtown square.

Mr. Giersch knows the historic downtown square better than just about anyone else and is a wealth of interesting information about where our city has come from. Free tickets/reservations are now available from EventBrite. Just click on the time below to access the reservation system for that tour option:
All tours will meet at the Visitors Center and will end at the Collin County History Museum (300 E. Virginia). The museum will be open for those wishing to explore its exhibits following the tours.

In conjunction with these tours, the city's GIS (Geographic Information System) Department will be officially launching new digital maps that will serve as perfect tools for folks wishing to explore our historic district on their own!

We will be observing and educating the public about the economic development brings to our community. And how fitting that National Tourism Week also happens to be National Economic Development Week

Also during National Tourism Week:
